The 70 major sins.

1. Associating partners with Allah (Shirk): This is the greatest of all major sins.
2. Committing murder: (Furqan:68)
3. Practicing magic and sorcery (2: 102)
5. Withholding the Zakat (Charity) (Al-Imran 3: 180)
6. Not fasting in Ramadan without a valid excuse.
7. Not performing Hajj (the pilgrimage) when one has the ability to do so.
8. Disrespect to parents (al-Isra 17: 23)
9. Cutting off the ties of relationships (Muhammad 47: 22)
10. Committing adultery or fornication (al-Isra 17: 32)
11. Committing sodomy (homosexuality)
12. Riba (interest) (Al-Baqarah 2: 275)
13. Devouring the wealth of orphans (An-Nissa 4:10)
14. Forging statements concerning Allah or forging Hadith (al-Zumar 39: 60)
15. Fleeing from the battle (al-Anfal 8:16)
16. Wrongdoing, deception or oppression on the part of the ruler (ash-Shura 42: 42)
17. Pride and arrogance (al-Nahl 16: 23)
18. Bearing false witness (al-Furqan 25:72)
19. Drinking alcoholic beverages (Al-Maidah 5: 90)
20. Gambling (Al-Maidah 5: 90)
21. Slandering chaste women (an-Nur 24: 23)
22. Stealing from the spoils of war or booty (Al-Imran 3:161)
23. Stealing (Al-Maida 5:38)
24. Committing highway robbery (Al-Maida 5: 33)
25. Making false oath
26. Committing oppression
27. Levying illegal taxes
28. Consuming forbidden wealth or taking it by any means (Baqarah 2: 188)
29. Committing suicide (An-Nisaa 4: 29)
30. Frequent lying (Al-Imran 3: 61)
31. Judging unjustly and ruling by laws other than the laws of Islam (Al-Maidah 5: 44)
32. Engaging in bribery (Baqarah 2: 188)
33. Women appearing like men and vice-versa
34. Being a cuckold (Cuckold: is the one who approves the indecency of his womenfolk and who is void of jealousy or the pimp
who facilitates indecency between two people. )
35. Marrying a divorced woman for the purpose of making her lawful for the first husband (Baqarah 2:229-230)
36. Not keeping clean from the remains of urine
37. Acting for show (al-Ma‘un 107: 4-6)
38. Acquiring knowledge only for worldly gain or concealing knowledge (al-Baqarah 2: 16)
39. Breaking trusts (al-Anfal 8: 27)
40. Reminding people of one’s kindness (al-Baqarah 2: 27)
41. Denying predestination (al-Qamar 54:47- 49)
42. Listening on other’s private conversation (al-Hujurat 49:12)
43. Spreading harmful tales (al-Qamar 68: 10-11)
44. Cursing others
45. Not fulfilling one’s promises/breaking contracts
46. Believing in what soothsayers and astrologers say
47. A wife being rebellious to her husband (An-Nisaa 4: 34)
48. Making statues and pictures as well as putting pictures of beings with souls on clothing, curtains, rocks and any other
items
49. Striking one’s self, wailing, tearing one’s clothing, pulling one’s hair and similar deeds as a form of mourning
50. Committing injustice (ash-Shura 42:42)
51. Being overbearing or taking advantage of the weak, slaves, wives or animals
52. Harming neighbors
53. Harming and abusing Muslims (al-Ahzab 33: 58)
54. Harming the slaves of Allah or offending and having an arrogant attitude toward them
55. Wearing one’s clothes too long, i.e. below the ankles
56. Men wearing silk and gold
57. Running away of a slave
58. Sacrificing animals for other than Allah
59. Claiming that somebody is one’s father while the claimant knows it is not true
60. Arguing or quarrelling for show and not seeking the truth
61. Not allowing excess water to flow to others
62. Not measuring the weights properly (al-Mutafafifeen 83:1-3)
63. Feeling secure from Allah’s plan (al-Araf 7:99)
64. Offending Allah’s righteous friends (al-Ahzab 33:57)
65. Not praying in the congregation and praying by one’s self without a valid excuse
66. Persistently missing Friday prayers and congregational prayers without any valid excuse
67. Usurping the rights of the heir through bequests (An-Nisaa 4: 12)
68. Deceiving and plotting evil (Fatir 35: 43)
69. Spying for the enemy of the Muslims (al-Qalam 68: 11-12)
70. Cursing or insulting anyone of the Companions of Allah’s Messenger (s.a.w.s.)
