Leslie Tripathy on the footsteps of Mahatma Gandhi condemns the communal violence between hindus and christians in Orissa,India

A letter to my driver missing in Kandhamal
My driver Muna was too excited to visit his family living in Kandhamal. He promised he would get back on Aug 24th,2008.He is the coolest man in control of the roads,so after lot many tests he had been installed as my personal driver.Everybody who knew him liked and appreciated his innocence and naivety as well proficiency on the roads. Many used to ask me is it because he is from Kandhamal that he's so cool and grounded, obedient, dutiful and not farcical at all.Possibly could be a valid reason coz most people I know from the Kandhamal belt happen to have this naivety and goodness of the heart rare to be found in people living in the cities. Not all but most of them
So what bothers me is its been since long that Muna hasnt been in touch with me.His phone is not reachable, and his poor family had no phones of their own, which I could have reached otherwise to enquire regarding Muna.I fear destiny called the otherwise good natured boy to visit his family when Kandhamal was to be battered by communal violence and intolerance in the name of religion.I hope he is safe somewhere, not become a victim of the violence.Hope against hope his mother and two kid sisters like the innocent people living in Kandhamal are not cursing their fate and not stranded in the forests without food or shelter.
Mother Teresa and MahatmaGandhiwould have been deeply aggrieved with the Kandhamal Tragrdy.Gandhi, the Messaih of Peace once said,
''The most heinous and the most cruel crimes of which history has record have been committed under the cover of religion or equally noble motives''
Its a pity that people get a adrenal rush after killing innocents in the name of religion. Is it a crime to be a Christian or Hindu.Dont they know God has no religion. When God is unperturbed embracing humanity and human beings as brothers and sisters we need to have a liitle more tolerance towards things we cant accept. It is my belief that killing under the cloak of religious beliefs is nothing but an act of murder. We should not be taking law to our hands. All this brouhaha has led us to forget the real culprits who murdered our Swamiji Laxmananda Saraswati .They must be somewhere having all fun watching the blood shed in our peace loving State of Odisha. How can people be so insensitive? If all these burning, killing helped them reach their goal then whats left to be pondered over.We shouldnot have easily let somebody provoke us after all Violence is the weapon of the weak and Non-Violence weapon of the strong.
Because some people had no patience to wait for justice and intolerance for others, now our State has been condemned for its intolerance, violence and evil massacre of innocents. What is absurd and monstrous about all these violence, bloodshed and chaos is that men who have no personal quarrel are killing one another in cold blood. The evil that is in the world almost always comes of ignorance, and good intentions may do as much harm as malevolence if they lack understanding.
If we want to make a point it can be said via discussions, not violence.Love can conquer everything.I wonder how and where Muna and his family are?He was a Christian boy,I hope he didnt have to pay a price for something that was not his fault, that he had chosen to stay in Odisha, the state of peace and harmony, despite being heavily populated by Hindus yet I guess he must never have seen this coming. The Kandhamal intolerance tragedy means blind obedience, unthinking stupidity, brutish callousness, wanton destruction, and irresponsible murder,I that the message we are giving to the world?I sincerely wish he is safe and protecting his mother and sisters and not paying a price for what his ancestors chose to do-decide i.e to stay in Orissa.
Lets give way for Love instead of Violence and Hatred.
